MS TRACK IN MATHEMATICAL FINANCE
The MS track in Mathematical Finance will enable a student to gain basic expertise in Statistics and Operations Research and augment it with specialized coursework in topics related to Mathematical Finance.
First-year Courses
For the MS track in Mathematical Finance, the following four courses are required as first-year courses.
Fall:
STOR 641 Stochastic Models In Operations Research I
STOR 555 Mathematical Statistics
Spring:
STOR 891 Statistical Methods In Finance
STOR 614 Linear and Non-linear Optimization
Additional course requirements
BUSI 880 Financial Economics
BUSI 886 Quantitative Methods in Finance
STOR 664 Applied Statistics I
Electives
Students must take 3 more electives, at least one of which must be from within the STOR department. Possible elecitves are:
STOR 612 Deterministic Models
STOR 769 Simulation
ECON 871Time Series Econometrics
In addition the student must participate in the Presentation course.
M.S. Paper
Each student in the INSTORE program must complete an M.S. Paper. The alternative “M.S. Thesis” option is not used in this program. The student must register in STOR 992 and a STOR faculty member must be either the advisor or co-advisor. The topic of the paper should be broadly within the areas of Financial Mathematics.
