M.S. Degree Admissions Information for Students Currently Enrolled in a Graduate Program at UNC-CH

This page contains general information about applying to one of the three M.S. programs offered by the STOR Department for students who are currently enrolled in another graduate program at UNC-CH.

Applying for admissions to the STOR M.S. programs:

Prerequisites

All M.S. students should have completed basic undergraduate coursework in introductory statistics, multivariable calculus, linear and matrix algebra, and calculus based probability.  Students applying to the Statistics program should have taken an intermediate level undergraduate course in inference and regression (similar to STOR 455).  Students interested in theoretical statistics or probability should have prior coursework in advanced calculus or real analysis.

Deadlines

The application deadline for the M.S. program is April 10th for students applying for Fall admission. The application deadline for Spring admission is October 15th.

Financial Assistance

The Department is not able to provide financial assistance to M.S. students.

How to Apply

Please apply by following the instructions given on the Graduate School website:  http://gradschool.unc.edu/admissions/instructions.html.  Additionally, please notify the STOR Department of your intent to apply, and your pending application, by sending an email to one of the Directors of Admissions:  Professor Chuanshu Ji (cji@email.unc.edu) or  Professor Gabor Pataki (pataki@email.unc.edu).  If you are currently a graduate student enrolled in another graduate program at UNC-CH, then you need not submit letters of recommendation or a statement of purpose.

International students have an additional application requirement of a Financial Certificate, which is mandatory even if you are currently residing in the United States. Please read the instructions about financial certificates at http://gradschool.unc.edu/admissions/instructions.html#fincert .

If you are an international student currently enrolled at UNC-CH then you are exempt from the TOEFL or IELTS score requirement.

Important Note Regarding Courses Completed Prior to Admission into the STOR M.S. Program:

At most six credit hours may be transferred from another accredited institution, or from within UNC-CH, for courses taken before admission to the STOR M.S. program.  (This limit on transferring credits applies to courses taken in the STOR Department as well.)
